Workshop 7: Getting a kebab

Goal
Get out of bed and eat a kebab.

Setting
The small town that the user lives in. The user will wake up in his bed, in his room and will interact with many areas in his town. The town will be filled with items and obstacles that the user must interact with to reach the kebab shop and purchase a kebab.

Obstacles
The user will have to dress themselves, and the NPCs in game will react to their clothes positively or negatively. For example, if they do not put on pants, a policeman will arrest them and they will not achieve their goal of eating a kebab. Other obstacles will be put in place
  • The car has no fuel
  • The first kebab shop is closed
  • Federal health inspectors are blocking access to the second shop
Objects
To overcome these obstacles, the user may use the following items:
  • Pants - The user must put these on before leaving their house to avoid being arrested
  • Underwear - The user must put these on before the pants to avoid chafe, which will stop them from completing the objective
  • Shirt - The user must wear a shirt to be allowed into the kebab shop at the end
  • Fuel - The user will find fuel in their garage, hidden under a sheet. This can be used to fill the car up.
  • Alcohol - The user can find this in the liquor cabinet under their bed. This can also be used to fill the car up, however if this method is used, the car will break down half way and they will have to walk. If the user opts to keep the alcohol and fuel the car with Fuel, they can use the alcohol to buy a kebab or bribe health inspectors
  • Improvised Banjo - The user can make a Banjo by combining their Pants and Underwear
  • Box - The user finds this outside the first kebab shop. They must get in the box prior to creating Banjo or they will be arrested.
  • Money - The user can earn money by busking outside the first kebab shop with the Banjo, while sitting in the box. The user can buy a kebab with this or bribe health inspectors
Map
There are 6 areas
  • Room - This contains Bed, Alcohol and Pants
  • Closet - This contains Underwear and Shirt
  • Garage - This contains Fuel and Car
  • First kebab shop - This has a closed kebab shop, and a box from which you can busk
  • Outside second kebab shop - This has two health inspectors
  • Inside second kebab shop - This has a counter where you can buy kebabs
Order
The user must get the items in the following order. Same number indicates it does not matter
  • 1. Pants
  • 1. Underwear
  • 1. Shirt
  • 1. Fuel
  • 1. Alcohol
  • 2. Box
  • 3. Improvised Banjo
  • 4. Money

That Darn Cat!

My research and work will be on That Darn Cat! A 1965 movie about a cat that helps a lady send a message to the FBI.

The SPACE is a small town where the cat can run around, jumping from ledge to ledge or running about in alleyways. The OBJECTS are powerups such as catnip or fish, which give the cat additional abilities. The player will control the cat, allowing it to move forwards, backwards, left, right and jump. The player may lose health from hazards or hunger. If the cat runs out of health, they lose the game. If the player is able to make it to their goal in time, they win.

The player will learn skills to control the cat. Moving the cat in the correct way to avoid obstacles will be paramount in the user's success. There is no CHANCE, as the powerups will not be placed dynamically.

3 Little Pigs

Three little pigs is the story of three pigs who build their houses out of various materials, and are tested when a wolf comes to eat them. The first two houses (Straw and Sticks) are easily blown down, and the pigs are eaten. However, the wolf is unable to blow down the brick house, and the pig stays safe. The moral of the story is to work hard to create quality workmanship or a wolf will kill you.

This story could be easily applied to a tower defense game.

The SPACE is the house and the area around it, and the OBJECTS are houses and traps that can protect the pigs from the wolf. The player will be able to generate energy by building fires, and will be able to build various traps, such as spikes and poison, and walls, such as straw, sticks and bricks.

The RULES incidate that if the path to the pigs is blocked off, the wolf will attack blockades until it gets through. If the wolf reaches the pigs, then the player loses. If the wolf dies or does not get the pigs in a certain time, then the player wins.

The player will learn SKILLS by choosing relevant traps in combinations that will hamper the wolf more effectively.

The wolf will take the shortest path possible to the pigs, so if the player has left out a tower or wall, the wolf may make an unexpected move to an unexperienced player, however an experienced player should be able to predict and pre-empt wolf activity, there is no real element of CHANCE

Mine Escape

We started playing, the rules were seemingly simple, however it was very hard to keep track of where the water was. After several moves we were on our way, but Josh got stuck very early and lost.

Wordham

This is a game of skill, determination and double-crossing

2 to 4 players use this link to choose 2 random words. (Use this if you want: http://watchout4snakes.com/creativitytools/RandomWord/RandomWordPlus.aspx) The first word is the starting word, the second word is the destination word.

Each turn, a player is able to either add a letter, change a letter, swap 2 letters or remove a letter. They may only perform one of these actions each turn. If the person manages to make a dictionary word in their turn, they get an extra move.

The winner is the person that changes the original word to the new word.

For example:

The starting word is "tongue"
The destination word is "banner"

Player 1: tonnue
Player 2: bonnue
Player 3: bannue
Player 1: banne
Player 2: banner

Player 2 wins!
